Weir Flood in to Action

Following the recent flooding of the Mythe water treatment works in Tewkesbury, Weir P&I Services Warwick were called upon by Severn Trent Water to re-instate the pumps in an emergency situation.

All of the pumps on the works had been totally submerged by flood water from the River Severn and WES undertook an emergency program of work to reinstate the pumps and return the works back to normal operations, producing drinking water for the Tewkesbury and Gloucester area.

A team of eight field service engineers all based at the Warwick Service Centre and dedicated to the Severn Trent framework contract were mobilised and assigned to the Mythe works to work alongside Severn Trent Water and other framework suppliers in a bid to return the works back to normal as quickly as possible.

The field service engineers quickly set about their business of carrying out the emergency work and supporting the customer to meet with their requirements.

In addition to the site activities, P&I Services  Northwich and P&I Services Warwick were able to carry out the refurbishment of a Weir SDA 450/500 Vertical Uniglide split case pump within five working days thanks to the new coating facility at Northwich and the excellent team working between the two units.

One of the benefits of supporting the Severn Trent framework with a local dedicated Service Centre and manpower resource was the fact that WES Warwick was able to quickly man the site, setting up an emergency workshop within the GAC pump house with a stock of pump bearings and other spares to suit the various Weir pumping equipment on site along with work benches and site tool boxes.
