British Energy repeat valve order

Weir Valves & Controls UK Ltd has won a repeat order for Batley Butterfly Valves (BV) 22000 series from British Energy.   This follows the successful development and delivery of a solution specifically developed for British Energy.

The valves will be used at Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station which is capable of supplying over 1.5 million homes with electricity.   Polyethylene pipe work has been installed within the Reactor Sea Water System to reduce the effects of corrosion and support more durable operation.

The valves were manufactured using Super Duplex stainless steel providing improved strength and corrosion resistance, particularly in ambient sea water applications.   Mike Craddock, system health engineer for Steam & Rotating Plant at Heysham 2 Power Station said, “We are extremely pleased with the performance of the BV 22000 valves and also with Weir Valves & Controls UK’s ability to develop, manufacture and deliver the valves in a short time frame, which was a key requirement.”

Weir Valves & Controls UK Ltd has a long established relationship with British Energy.   Sales & marketing director at Weir Valves & Controls UK Ltd, Peter O’Reilly commented, “The recent investment in the new facility in Elland has allowed the company to significantly cut lead times, which means we can deliver all valves within an industry leading timetable.  This is proving to be a major benefit to many of our customers.”
