Weir Power and Industrial Suzhou redefine the possibility of
improvement on On Time Delivery
To focus on improvements in customer service Weir Power &
Industrial Suzhou has made great improvements in on time delivery
performance.
A task team has been created to review previous sub-optimal
performance and identify the root causes to enable a focus on the
improvement activity. By using workflow analysis tools, value
stream analysis (VSA) and 3Cs, five target issues were
identified.
As a result, a number of targeted initiatives have been created
including a new production planning model; Multi-skilling of Shop
floor operators.
Re-organised shifts resolved production bottlenecks. The
outsourcing strategy was revised to balance the capacity and the
Introduction of periodical planning review meetings hosted by our
master scheduler, for better information flow and much improved
controls.
The overall effect was that on time delivery performance has now
improved to 98% in 2009, far exceeding our original
expectations.
