Weir awarded order for Chinese nuclear power plant
In March 2010, Weir Power & Industrial was awarded a
multi-million dollar order for the supply of TRICENTRIC® butterfly
valves from the State Nuclear Power Engineering Company Ltd (SNPEC)
in China. The valves will be installed on the nuclear island of the
Sanmen Unit 2 and Haiyang Unit 2 nuclear power plants in China. The
1,100MW units, which are of a Westinghouse AP1000 design, are
currently under construction, with commissioning scheduled for 2013
and 2014.
The TRICENTRIC® triple offset butterfly valves are duplicates of
those supplied through Westinghouse for Sanmen Unit 1 and Haiyang
Unit 1 and will be manufactured at the new nuclear valve the
facility in Ipswich, Massachusetts, USA which Weir has built to
meet the growth demands from the nuclear renaissance.
