Weir’s new divisional office

Over 100 staff from the Power & Industrial and Oil & Gas divisions in Scotland moved to a new custom built facility in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The former Services Division teams, who had been based at the now leased Cathcart site, have re-located to Pegasus House on the Scottish Enterprise Technology Park in East Kilbride.

The new offices were officially opened by Group CEO Mark Selway in October and showcased to staff and customers during a day of celebration.

Personnel include the technical engineering team, tendering engineers and various support functions with responsibilities covering regional activities for UK, Europe and the Middle East.    The site is also home to the Power & Industrial divisional team headed by divisional managing director Phil Clifton.

A transition team was tasked with selecting a location that minimised changes in commuting time, provided adequate parking and had good public transport links.  After canvassing employees and visiting several locations it was agreed that the Scottish Enterprise Technology Park best met requirements.  The project was managed by Susan Kelly from the finance function, whose key objective was to minimising disruption to staff and workflow before, during and after the move.

Gordon MacMillan, human resources director, Europe commented: “Weir offers staff a workplace in East Kilbride which provides a modern working environment and embodies the Weir principle of valuing people.”

Phil Clifton added:  “The investment in the new facilities underlines Weir’s commitment to its continuous improvement programme and we look forward to welcoming customers to East Kilbride.”

As part of the same programme, a new customer product training centre is being created at Weir Power & Industrial’s service facility in Alloa, central Scotland and will be operational later this year.
